What is a Volunteer Gardening Assistant

Minimum Age 16+

Our hospice gardens are a place of joy and escape - where children can play pirates aboard our Seaside Garden boat, whirl around in the play park, or explore the sights and scents of our colourful sensory garden.

As a Volunteer Gardening Assistant, you’ll help keep these special spaces looking their best. You’ll be supporting our Gardener to make sure every path, flowerbed and lawn is a welcoming space for our babies, children, young people and families to enjoy.

You don’t need to be a gardening expert - just a love of the outdoors, a willingness to learn, and a desire to make a difference.

What's Involved?🌳

  • Helping with hedge and grass cutting
  • Sweeping and clearing leaves, twigs, and debris
  • Weeding and caring for plants
  • Getting hands-on with seasonal planting
  • Painting fences, benches, or decking areas

What's In It For You🌻

  • A chance to see the difference your hard work makes throughout the seasons
  • Experience in grounds maintenance and horticulture
  • Be part of the team behind our award-winning Chorley Flower Show creations
  • The opportunity to meet new people and join a warm, friendly volunteer team
  • Invitations to support our volunteer events
  • Free lunch when you’re on site

This Role is Perfect For You If...

You’re friendly, hands-on, and don’t mind getting a bit muddy! You enjoy being outdoors in all weathers, working as part of a team, and taking pride in keeping our gardens looking beautiful.

We ask for a regular commitment, in return, you’ll be part of something truly rewarding - helping to bring colour and happiness to our hospice grounds.

Minimum age: 16+

Commitment: One morning or afternoon per week (Monday to Friday)

Training: Full training and ongoing support provided
